Front of House Procedures

House Manager should ensure that the following functions are performed:

On Opening

Unlock all three front doors

Turn on all foyer and corridor lights

Open all inner Auditorium doors

Set hallway thermostats at 20C

Stock ledges with programs and flashlights

Check with box office whether wheelchair spots have been sold for this performance

Add or remove chairs from wheelchair spots in Auditorium as required

Ensure that corridor entrance doors remain closed

Place ticket stub boxes in position at corridor entrance doors

Re-stock paper cups and boxes of tissues in washrooms

Ensure that coat-hangers in cloakroom have coat-check labels on them

Distribute Kanata Theatre badges and assign staff to positions:

     2 Curbside greeters
     1 or 2 cloakroom attendants, depending on the weather
     2 usher/ticket takers the Even door and 2 are the Odd door

At 7:40pm (check with stage manager for exact time), open corridor doors and admit audience

At 7:55pm ring the hand-bell, if necessary. Take note whether there are empty seats in wheelchairs spots

At 8:00pm, close auditorium doors, odd side and even side simultaneously in pairs, starting at top and proceeding to bottom

Seat latecomers at rear of Auditorium, in wheelchair spots

Count ticket stubs, record number on Box Office schedule, and inform box office

During the play, there should be:

Two ushers in Auditorium to take action in emergencies

The Front of House Manager or designate should be in the Foyer at all times

NOTE: Cloakroom donations are voluntary

At Intermission

Front of House Manager receives a 3-page warning (by phone) from Stage Manager

Warn people in foyer to be quiet. Open corridor doors. Station 2 ushers at even side and 2 ushers at odd side.

Stage Manager will brighten corridor lights as signal to open Auditorium doors.

Two ushers are to remain in the Auditorium to guard the stage

Station ushers as guards at corridor doors:

    No food or drink is allowed in the Auditorium
    Bottled water is the only liquid allowed in the Auditorium

One usher should help with the refreshment cart, if required.

One usher should be in the cloakroom, if required.

The intermission should last 15 to 20 minutes: check with Stage Manager.

Give audience a 3-minute warning with the hand-bell

When audience are in Auditorium, close Auditorium doors in sequence as before - top to bottom in pairs.

At end of play

Front of House Manager receives a 3-page warning (by phone) from Stage Manager

Warn people in foyer to be quiet. Open corridor doors. Station 2 ushers at even side and 2 ushers at odd side.

Stage Manager will brighten corridor lights as signal to open Auditorium doors.

There should be 2 cloakroom attendants, as required.

When audience has left,

     check the auditorium
     walk each row, collecting discarded programs

Front of House manager should collect badges, total up cloakroom donations, place donations in bag, put in cupboard and lock cupboard.

Turn down thermostats - 15C?, turn off corridor lights, close Auditorium and corridor doors.

Turn off washroom and cloakroom lights

Release front door locks and kick doors to ensure that they have closed properly and latched.

Check patio doors and fire exit door (Even side).

Go back and double check all doors!

Turn off all foyer and servery lights

Report to Stage manager that all is secure.
