Kanata Theatre is gearing up to truly delight you with their up coming play called The Long Weekend, written by Canada’s most produced playwright Norm Foster and directed by Alain Chamsi. This hilarious play focuses on two couples: Max and Wynn, played by John Collins and Jennifer Miller and Roger and Abby, played by Dale MacEachern and Melissa McCallum.

The Long Weekend opens at the newly acquired countryside retreat of Max and Wynn. Wynn has invited her dearest friend Abby and Abby’s husband Roger to escape the hustle and bustle of city life for a weekend of rest and relaxation. Wynn’s husband Max is not happy to be spending 48 hours with a man he considers dull and boring. Once the four are isolated in the beautiful landscape, their friendship is put to the ultimate test as secrets, lies and betrayals are revealed.

Foster has been quoted saying, “I find it far more satisfying if I can make an audience laugh and feel a little heartache within the same story.” He has not let us down with The Long Weekend. While his characters are given devastatingly witty things to say to each other, underneath the humorous dialogue are four individuals trying to cling onto whatever happiness they can, even if that means hurting the ones they love.

Background: The Long Weekend is Norm Foster's hilarious look at love and marriage disposable-style. A very humorous play with richly drawn characters and some of the most sparkling and funny dialogue that Foster has ever written. As with many of Norm Foster's works, The Long Weekend serves up the laughs and proves once again why he is Canada’s most produced playwright.

The Plot: Wynn and Max Trueman are hosting their friends, Abby and Roger Nash, in their tiny country retreat. These are old friends, ones with plenty of troublesome baggage whose misunderstandings and egos explain the chilly truth that lies under of the warmth that their smiles and handshakes would suggest. As hilarious secrets and deceptions are revealed, the sparks begin to fly. The Long Weekend is sure to keep audiences laughing at the smart talk, sharp wit and scrumptious twists.

The Long Weekend is a raucous tale about choices that are made along the way to "happily ever after." It's an intelligent comedy full of gut-busting laughs that reminds us that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.
