Auditions for: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Auditions for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Dale Wasserman from the novel by Ken Kesey will be held on March 2nd and March 3rd, 2008, at 7:00pm in the rehearsal room of the Ron Maslin Playhouse. Please enter at the Stage Door at the rear of the Playhouse. For more information, or if you are unable to make it to either audition but wish to be considered for a role, or if you'd like to take part in the production, please contact the Director, Shelagh Mills or the Producer, Michèle Baddoo, before those dates.

There will be no rehearsals during the school March break nor during Easter.

The production will be presented on May 20^th to 31st, 2008.

Auditions for: The Seagull

Auditions for The Seagull by Anton Chekhov, in a new version by Tom Stoppard directed by Jim Holmes, will be held Tuesday October 9^th and Wednesday October 10^th 2007, at 7:30pm in the rehearsal room of the Ron Maslin Playhouse. Please enter at the Stage Door at the rear of the Playhouse. Call backs are scheduled for Thursday October 11^h.

The Seagull, first produced in 1896, is one of the most important and influential plays ever written. Many believe modern theatre began with The Seagull. Chekhov thought of it as a comedy, but the fact that it ends in an off stage suicide has led some to question this characterization. There is nevertheless an unmistakable comedic tone to the first three acts and much of the fourth, and this is fully exploited by Tom Stoppard’s witty translation. Our production will strive to find the humour in the script while honouring the play’s underlying themes of the meaning of “love” and “art”.

The play is in four acts and will be performed with only one intermission, between acts 3 and 4. The action of the first three acts is roughly continuous, but there is a two year lapse between acts 3 and 4. Ages are flexible and in any event are a matter of appearance rather than chronological age. Nevertheless for general guidance here is the age of characters at the beginning of the play as suggested by the script. Take these age indications with a giant grain of salt. Do not be deterred from auditioning because you think you are too old or too young.

The production will be presented on February 5th to 16th, 2008.

Auditions for: The Gallant Tailor or, Seven at One Blow

Auditions for The Gallant Tailor (the children's Christmas play) with music adapted and arranged by Zelma Smith and book and lyrics by Edith Rothrock, directed by Dorothy Shaw, will be held on Monday September 3^rd at 1:00 pm and Tuesday September 4^th 2007 at 7:00pm, in the rehearsal hall of the Ron Maslin Playhouse. Please enter at the Stage Door at the rear of the Playhouse.

Those auditioning will be asked to sing "O Canada" or "Happy Birthday"; any other choice of song must be pre-approved by the Director.

Minimum age - 9 years
All characters must be able to sing - some dancers required.

The production will be presented on December 27^th, 28^th and 29^th, 2007: there will be two shows per day.

King - adult male
Princess - teenage girl
Prime Minister - teenage boy
Lady-in-waiting - teenage boy

Narrator - adult male or female (speaking part only)

Auditions for: The Long Weekend

Auditions for The Long Weekend by Norm Foster, directed by Alain Chamsi, will be held on Wednesday September 5^th and Thursday September 6^th 2007, at 7:30pm in the rehearsal room of the Ron Maslin Playhouse. Please enter at the Stage Door at the rear of the Playhouse. For more information, or if you are unable to make it to either audition but wish to be considered for a role, or if you'd like to take part in the production, please contact the director Alain Chamsi (alainchamsi@netscape.net), before those dates.

There are four characters in the play: two men, two women. All are supposedly in their forties.

The production will be presented on November 13^th to 24^th, 2007.

Auditions for: The Heiress

Auditions for The Heiress by Ruth and Augustus Goetz will be held on Monday June 18^th and Tuesday June 19^th 2007, at 7:30pm in the rehearsal room of the Ron Maslin Playhouse. Please enter at the Stage Door at the rear of the Playhouse. For more information, or if you are unable to make it to either audition but wish to be considered for a role, or if you'd like to take part in the production, please contact the directors Eufron Williams or Dewi Williams , before those dates.

The production will be presented on September 18^th to 29^th, 2007. Rehearsals will begin in August. The early audition allows the costumes people to measure the actors and get on with, well, costuming.

About the play: The heiress herself lives a sheltered life with her father in New York city in 1850. Her father has a very large income for that time, and she herself has an inheritance from her mother. A handsome suitor arrives on the scene: is he after the girl or her money? Will she accept him?

As well as Heiress, Father and Suitor, there are other good roles to be played: aunts, cousins, servants, each of whom has his or her own character which can be inferred from the text. There will be two non-speaking maids, and a coachman who has a very small part of about three lines. And as the play is set in the 1850s, we can explore the sounds, the lighting, the costumes, the artifacts and the furnishings of another era: it should make for a
very interesting production.
