Kanata Theatre will mark the 60th anniversary of VE Day and the opening of the National War Museum with a production of a play that recalls and celebrates Canada’s role in World War II.

You’ll Get Used To It-The War Show is directed by Jim Holmes, with musical direction by Larraine Gorman, and choreography by Linda Jamieson. This play is the product of many interviews by Peter Colley (one of Canada’s most successful playwrights) of veterans, factory workers, housewives, war brides and others who lived through the period 1939 to1945.

Songs like White Cliffs of Dover, I’ll Be Seeing You, We’ll Meet Again, and especially the plucky Wish Me Luck as You Wave Me Goodbye are featured in the show with their themes of hope and optimism. Nine men and seven women take the many roles of soldiers, officers, politicians, statesmen, wives, farmers, factory workers, and sweethearts whose courage and sacrifice got us through the war.

Kanata Theatre has had another spectacular season. Audiences were puzzled in Proof and touched in Ethan Claymore. They cried in Dancing at Lughnasa and roared with laughter in Caught In The Net. It has been a season of full houses and champagne toasts.

Coming to centre stage one last time this 36th season, Kanata Theatre promises the fun is not over yet. James Holmes is directing the final show called You’ll Get Used To It – The War Show (written by Peter Colley) in honour of the 60th anniversary of VE day and in celebration of the opening of the National War Museum. Larraine Gorman is working with James Holmes once again as musical director. Many of you may remember the tremendous job this duo accomplished last season when they brought Rock and Roll to the Ron Maslin stage.

The War Show is a story surrounding six Canadian soldiers and the women in their lives from the minute they enlisted in the army right up to their victory in World War II. The soldiers humorously recollect their boot camp days with fondness; they reminisce about chasing girls across England and they recall the horrors of D-Day.

Although the subject matter of the play is serious, it is lightened with slapstick humour and wonderful nostalgic songs that lift the spirit. It will take the audience through a range of emotions.

You are not going to want to miss this lively production which runs Tuesday to Saturday May 24th to June 4th. Tickets are $15.00 and curtain is 8:00 pm sharp. There will be a complementary champagne reception on Opening Night at 7:30pm.
