From the program for The Black Bonspiel of Wullie MacCrimmon
LIONEL KING (Malleable Charlie Brown) has recently appeared with Kanata Theatre as Reverend Brown in Inherit the Wind, Judge Gaffney in Harvey, Friar Lawrence in Romeo & Juliet and Toad in A Year with Frog and Toad. He first got the theatre bug about 1980 and over the years has performed as Pooh Bah in The Mikado, Mr.Bumble in Oliver and Henry Hobson in Hobson’s Choice, among others. Black Bonspiel is his first encounter with the sport of curling. At least it’s better than trying to dance.
From the program for Inherit the Wind:
LIONEL KING (Reverend Brown) finds the contrast between portraying the well-meaning but somewhat addled Friar Lawrence in Romeo and Juliet and the fire-and-brimstone Reverend Brown to be a bit of a jump. However,
From the program for You’ll Get Used to It - The War Show.:
Lionel first appeared with Kanata Theatre in 1990 in Absent Friends, and he was most recently seen in 2003's The Uninvited and Aladdin. His musical theatre experience includes Oliver, Oklahoma and The Mikado, as well as Kanata Theatre's A Chorus of Disapproval. He is glad to be back in a show with plenty of good songs to sing, the opportunity to try some interesting characterisations, and a historic story to tell.
From the program for Cash on Delivery:
LIONEL KING (Uncle George) most recently performed with Kanata Theatre as a very self-important crab in Just So. Other appearances include Absent Friends, Hobson’s Choice and You’ll Get Used to It - The War Show. He has also performed in musical theatre in Ottawa and Alberta. Cash on Delivery is his first experience of farce. He is grateful to the rest of the cast for treating Uncle George with such loving care and respect through the thousand natural shocks that flesh seems to be heir to.
From the program for Romeo and Juliet:
LIONEL KING( Friar Lawrence) last appeared with Kanata Theatre as Toad in A Year with Frog and Toad and Uncle George in Cash On Delivery. Other appearances have included You’ll Get Used To It! - The War Show, Hobson’s Choice, Chorus of Disapproval and Absent Friends. Romeo & Juliet is his second Shakespeare experience, after As You Like It. It’s a great pleasure to be working with a fantastic cast and crew to present one of the enduring classics of theatre.
From the program for Harvey
LIONEL KING (Judge Omar Gaffney) began his theatrical career with Fiddler
on the Roof in Fort McMurray, Alberta in 1979, and he has averaged about a show a year since then. His first with Kanata Theatre was Absent Friends in 1991. His most recent roles were Toad in A Year with Frog and Toad and Friar Lawrence in Romeo & Juliet. Some other appearances include You’ll Get Used To It - The War Show, Hobson’s Choice, A Chorus of Disapproval and The Uninvited.
